Frances (Betty) McLaughlin
April 14, 1921 – November 17, 2015

McLAUGHLIN, Frances (nee Telford) – Betty passed away in St. Catharines on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 with family at her side. John, her husband of 64 years, predeceased her in 2006. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Alan) Macro of Burlington, son John (Ann) McLaughlin of Ridgeway, son Robert (Holly Klassen) McLaughlin of Cambridge and daughter Mary (Robert) Goodfellow of Ancaster and grandchildren Jeremy, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Juliana. She was predeceased by her brothers Nick Telford of Lindsay and Bert Telford of Deep River.

Daughter of Mary Richard and Gladstone Telford, Betty was born in Lindsay, Ontario on April 14, 1921. After completing business school, Betty was employed by the Imperial Bank of Commerce in Lindsay. Following her marriage in 1942 to Robert John McLaughlin, Betty transferred to its Halifax branch until John was shipped overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve during World War II. This move was the first of many as John was transferred during his careers with the TD bank and federal government before finally settling in Welland in 1968.

Betty had a long and full life that most treasured family and friends. During a lifetime of moves, Betty gathered many new friends along the way while staying in contact with childhood friends, cousins and friends from her early married years in Halifax.

A gifted pianist, Betty raised her family with a love of music and, true to her Irish Ottawa Valley ancestry, a love of fun. She also encouraged them, like her, to be strong and independent. Betty was a life-long learner who encouraged her children to stay in school and to be the best they could be.

Visitation will take place at the Pleasantview Funeral Home (entrance off Merrittville Hwy at the corner of Hwy #20) on Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 10:00 – 11:00 with a service to celebrate her life following in the chapel. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will be held in Lindsay, Ontario.

Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. You are invited to share your memories, photos and condolences on-line at www.pleasantviewcemetery.ca
