It is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of Scott Phillip Shaw in his 46th year. Scott passed away on September 14, 2015 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, surrounded by his devoted wife, Wanda (nee Sawatsky), family and his cherished friends.
Born September 25, 1969 in St. Catharines, he graduated from Laura Secord Secondary School, where he participated in various intramural championship teams; sparking a passion for sports. Scott was an avid fisherman, baseball player and golfer. He was a member of the Sunday morning Men’s League at Cataract Bowl and Monday night Mixed League at Fairview Lanes. His many achievements include a perfect 300 game and being the champion at the 2007-08 PBA Tour Pro-Am tournament in Buffalo. He was also proud to be on the championship Romby’s Rockets hockey team and the original Big Benders.
For over 20 years, Sunday nights were the highlight of Scott’s week – it’s where he joined his loyal group of buddies in St. Catharines for two hours of ball hockey! The bonds created on those Sunday nights meant the world to Scott. The guys will always have a few permanent marks left by Scott to remember him by.
Nobody turned down food when Scott was cooking! His culinary talents will be sorely missed by those who experienced the joy of indulging in one of his specialties.
Throughout it all, Scott received unwavering support and dedication from Wanda, his beloved wife of 19 years - he treasured her love, friendship and dedication.
A devoted son to father David and recently deceased mother Charleen (June 15, 2015) and cherished brother to sister Michelle Christensen. Grandparents Arnold and June Rombough and Victor and Dorothy Shaw predeceased Scott.
Scott touched the lives of those who had the pleasure of truly knowing him well – his father-in-law Gary Sawatsky, parents-in-law Joanne and Ed Chernoski and brother-in-law Greg (Elena) Sawatsky. The apples of his eyes, Zachary Shaw, Sierra Christensen, Natalia and Alex Sawatsky, Bailey, Brady and Brooklyn Pearce will greatly miss Uncle Scotty. He will live on in the heart of his lifelong best friend of over 30 years Sean Pearce and his wife Tracy. He is also missed by close friends Andrew and Diana Waskawich and David Bott.
A special thanks to the GNGH ER Department, GNGH Ward D, Juravinski Cancer Centre and especially the incomparable Dr. Brian Leber.
Family will receive friends at Pleasantview Funeral Home, 2000 Merrittville Hwy (corner of Hwy 20 and Merrittville) on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm, and Saturday from 1-2 pm. Scott’s dear friend Jake Harder will lead a Memorial Service celebrating Scott’s life in the Pleasantview chapel on Saturday at 2 pm, reception to follow. In support of Dr. Leber’s work, memorial donations to the McMaster University Leukemia/BMT Fund are appreciated by the family.
