Douglas 'Doug' Chamberlain
August 7, 1931 - August 28, 2014
CHAMBERLAIN, Douglas Oliver - Died peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday, August 28th, 2014.
Doug was born in 1931 and grew up in St. Catharines. He obtained his B. Comm from Queen’s University. His early working years were spent with Clarkson and Gordon and Shell Oil. The last 20 years of his working life were with the Ontario Goverment's Ministry of Industry and Trade, as a business consultant. Most of these years were spent in Toronto, with postings to Minneapolis and Chicago.
Throughout his life, Doug enjoyed curling, tennis, hockey, fishing and woodworking; but his greatest pleasure was his family and involvement in their activities. In earlier years he loved coaching his sons in their various sports. In later years, he remained a very enthusiastic spectator, particularly when his grandchildren were involved.
Beloved husband of Janice for 53 years, devoted father of David (Ceinwen), Drew (Helen) and Ian(Judy) and proud grandfather of Bronwyn, Dylan, Evan, Mackenzie, Dawson, Taylor and Troy. Brother of Jean Haynes and brother in law of Gillian and Norman Whitehead. Doug and Jan lived most of their life in Lorne Park, Mississauga but moved to Fonthill after Doug’s retirement where they were able to enjoy life in a small community.
Doug’s family will receive guests at PLEASANTVIEW FUNERAL HOME (Merritville Road entrance at the corner of Hwy #20) 905-892-1699 on Saturday September 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 12. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 noon.
